My month old son has a cold, what can i do to help him get over it?

He is so congested, and snezing and caughing...my mom said its fine, but this is my first child so im freaking out...should i take him to the ER or listen to my mom and just wait it out? what can i do to help him get over it??? becuase he is only a month old i cant vix him...HELP!
