Space landers and space probes help!?
Well, think about it for a moment. An orbiter is simply a satellite, going round and round. A probe is a lander on a one way trip to the surface, like the Mars rovers. A lander has the ability to descend from orbit and land, then later take off and return to orbit. The moon landings worked by sending a craft into space to get to a lunar orbit, then the lander descended to the surface leaving the service module in lunar orbit. The lander landed, men walked around, and then returned to orbit to meet up with the service module which then came back to Earth, to finally have the capsule separate and descend from orbit back to the surface to land in the ocean.
