What do you think this guy honestly thinks about me..try to put yourself in his shoes?

I don't know if he looked at you as being his girlfriend. He probably just moved on and still think abouts you time to time. he probably had his gf watching what ya'll was saying because you probably was proving to her that ya'll didn't have nothing going on. It sounds like he does still have feelings for you not matter if he has a gf and probably doesn't know how to tell you maybe. Basically just talk to as a friend and talk about the situation and it'll probably straightened some things out.
